Skills & Events Pillar

The Skills & Events Pillar exists to make school life rich, memorable and deeply engaging. It connects what children learn in class with real experiences, helping them develop creativity, confidence, teamwork, leadership and resilience. Through clubs, events, projects and the House System, students are given meaningful opportunities to discover their interests, practise new skills and feel part of something bigger than themselves.

What the Skills & Events Pillar Does

This pillar designs and coordinates the wider life of the school: clubs, themed weeks, assemblies, celebrations, UNESCO days, competitions and community events. The annual Skills & Events calendar includes activities such as the UNESCO Diversity Fair, Anti-Bullying and World Health Days, Green Week, Imagine Art Festival, school assemblies and house challenges, giving children regular chances to participate, present, perform and contribute.

Clubs & Enrichment

FRAM Clubs offer children the chance to explore passions and build practical and social skills in a relaxed, enjoyable setting. Options such as choir, dance, painting, crafts, Japanese, coding, electronics, chess, LEGO, Rubik’s cube and outdoor activities help develop creativity, focus, problem-solving, coordination, communication and teamwork. Each club is designed with clear developmental benefits in mind, so that children are not only having fun, but also strengthening skills that support their learning and personal growth.

The House System

The FRAM House System is a key part of the Skills & Events Pillar. Every child and adult belongs to one of four Houses inspired by explorers: Alexandra David-Neel, Fernando Magellan, Amelia Earhart and Neil Armstrong. Each House has its own colour, element and values, and forms a cross-age community where older students can mentor younger ones and everyone has a place to belong.

Across the year, Houses earn points for kindness, effort, behaviour, teamwork and achievement, and take part in friendly competitions and themed challenges. This nurtures character, leadership and school spirit, showing students that their actions contribute to the success of their whole community, not just themselves. The House Cup and special recognition moments celebrate not only results, but also fairness, resilience, respect and collaboration. The Pillars are the three core structures that organise learning and school life at FRAM: the Academic Pillar, the Skills & Events Pillar, and the Welfare & Pastoral Care Pillar. Together, they ensure that every child receives a balanced, holistic experience that supports academic growth, personal development, emotional wellbeing, and real-world skills.

Although each Pillar has its own area of focus, they collaborate closely to create a unified approach to education. The Academic Pillar sets learning goals, the Skills & Events Pillar enriches them through practical experiences, and the Welfare & Pastoral Care Pillar ensures that children feel safe, supported, and emotionally ready to learn. Their teamwork provides a seamless and meaningful school experience.
